#Cats This Week--Recovering From Surgery by Karen Rose Smith

The big event in the Smith feline family this week was Halo's surgery. She was spayed and had six teeth extracted under the same anesthesia. She did amazingly well and is recuperating in my office. The hardest part has been keeping Halo separated from the other cats, especially her baby, Miss Paddington. Paddy missed her mom terribly and looked to Zoie Joy for comfort and companionship. Hubby has spent the majority of his days (and nights) with Halo in the office while I held down the fort with the other three in the rest of the house. But all (especially London) seemed out of sorts with doors closed that aren't normally closed and Halo not involved in the dynamics. They are creatures of habit as much as humans.

Yesterday, we took Zoie to my office to visit her mom. After some initial scouting unfamiliar scents, Paddy jumped on the condo and gave Halo a welcoming kiss. In no time at all, they were sleeping on their condos. Their bond is amazing to watch. Hopefully, Paddy spending time with her mom will accelerate Halo's recovery and the closed office doors can again be opened and life can return to "normal." It will a chore to keep Halo restricted until she has fully recovered.

A welcoming kiss!

And Halo can't wait to get back to her normal routine and her long afternoon naps!

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 87th novel will be released in 2015.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens. And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

Karen looks forward to interacting with readers. They can find her at the links below.
