The sleuth in my Caprice De Luca Home Staging Mysteries is a home stager. She stages homes for high-end clients who are selling their estates. She uses themes to stage the houses, always accompanied with food reflecting the same theme and catered by her sister Nikki. Her designs are sometimes elegant and other times rustic. But she has experienced great success and is held in high esteem by area real estate agents.
Personally, however, my own personal style is much more simple and each room in my home incorporates a theme, from Southwestern to Victorian to traditional. I incorporate items in each room that hold special significance to me such as furnishings from my childhood home, to items given to me by friends and relatives, and always family photos.
The other constant in every room of my home, regardless of the decorating theme, is cats. When I am shopping, I am always drawn to merchandise that is feline-themed. If the item reminds me of one of my furry family members, I immediately begin to calculate how to incorporate it into one of my decorating schemes. I can always justify these purchases because I know they will make me smile when I walk by them. This is just another way that felines fill my life with joy. Of course, nothing beats the actual cuddling and petting of all of my furry friends. But both my cats and my cat decor make my home a place of comfort, surrounded by all the things that are important to me.
This week I captured some photos of some of my favorite cat decor and corresponding photos of my own furry friends in the poses that inspired me to purchase their look-alikes.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens. And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 97th novel will be released in 2017.
