#Lenox #Cat Giveaway by Karen Rose Smith

Would you like to have something special in your house this Christmas?  How about a Lenox Christmas cat?  This beautiful porcelain china collectible will brighten any animal lover's house, not only this year but in years to come.

All you have to do to enter is tell me whether you chose your pet...or your pet chose you.  You will see both in my Caprice De Luca home-stager mysteries.  But mostly the animals choose Caprice!

In my life, my dad chose our first dog, a cocker spaniel, as an anniversary present for my mom.  He chose my first two kittens.  They were both yellow tabbies.  When I was in high school, a friend asked if we'd like a white kitten.  She was our first "inside" cat and we treated her like a princess.  She was a beauty.  When my husband and I were first married, we chose a calico from a pet store.  Two years later, we accepted into our apartment a gray angora from a farm.  Their names were Whiskey and Mimi, and at seventeen and fifteen, they died within a few months of each other.  They were close, always grooming each other and sleeping together.  Then came Kasie, a striking calico, too, who was our wildest feline.  She would run and then jump up the wooden door frames, sliding down with her claws.  Kasie had hyperthyroidism and lived to fourteen.  Twelve years ago this Christmas on a snowy morning, we visited a friend's farm and a little black kitten stole my heart.  She had a bad respiratory infection.  It was the week before Christmas, a few days before my birthday, and I couldn't leave her in the cold and snow.  I brought her home, took her to the vet, and nursed her for several weeks.  Ebbie and I have always had a special, sisterly relationship.  A few months later, we adopted her half sister, a gray tabby we named London.

Sixteen months ago Zoie Joy chose our redbud tree to hide in after a storm so we could save her!  Lance, a hurt yellow tabby who needed lots of care found us last summer.  It seemed like a full circle.

So to enter this Lenox giveaway, just make a comment about whether you chose your pet or he/she chose you.  Feel free to tell your story.  Pet people love to share.

Only US and Canadian entries please.  Also, you must leave your email address so I can contact you if you win.  If you want to message it to me on Facebook or email me at Karen@karenrosesmith.com, that's okay, too.  The giveaway will close on November 30, 2013.  That gives us lots of time to collect and read each other's stories of meeting our best friends.

Good luck and have a great start to your holiday season.

Best,
Karen

What a fun contest and good luck with your release. I chose my cat. I ran a cat rescue and pulled her from a shelter to adopt out...then kept her:)Sandra Cox, sandracox1@gmail.com

My cat choose me. We were at the shelter and he reached is paw out as I was walking by. He snagged my shirt and we had been together for 13 years and passed away last year.

Ebony and I were thrown together by fate. My oldest daughter got her as a birthday gift for a friend. Unfortunately they couldn't keep her so she came to our house. She rules with an iron paw, but she is such a cuddle baby I can never be upset with her.

One morning in the drive-thru to Dunkin Donuts a gray kitten ran up to my car door. I opened it, he scrambled up and over me to cuddle up to my ex-husband...the one who had to be convinced...and made me an hour late for work. My boss was both amused and forgiving when I explained that I'd gotten a cup of coffee and a kitten at the drive-thru and had to take one home. Guess the "kitty sucker" sign is over me always.

I'd like to think we chose each other - all my cats (and there have been quite a few) have been strays/ferals and 3 that were my daughter's. One special cat, Ollie, I nursed with a baby doll bottle after his feral mother and he were covered in motor oil and she left him on my back porch (where she had originally had her litter). So I guess in that case the mother chose him for me :)

I really had no business getting Ninja. My cousin and I had nine cats, two dogs, four goldfish and an iguana between us already. But we stopped at an animal rescue place to look at the cats and went in to see this lovely calico. As soon as I walked in the door, however, this black kitten in the first cage me owed at me and stuck his paw out to me. Never one to resist, I touched his paw and he curled it around my finger, tugging it closer where he rubbed it along his jaw, purring loudly and talking to me. I looked at my cousin, but I was caught and she knew it! I told the woman to start the adoption process. I looked at Ninja and told him "you're coming home with us." Darned if he didn't nudge his sister, a pretty black and white kitten, towards me! He was still talking and I swear he was telling me to take her, too! No, I didn't, but it broke my heart to see them rub each other in leaving. Yes, you can tell, he definitely chose me!

Both of our dogs chose us. The first (black lab mix named Major) we got as a puppy from the county shelter. Out of six puppies, he was the one that wiggled right up to my husband and made friends. We had him for thirteen years.

Our current dog came from the local SPCA shelter. My husband was volunteering walking dogs and this one was extra enthusiastic with him. He's a yellow lab with golden eyes who is named Simba. We got him in 2007, a few months after we lost Major.

Right now we also have custody of our daughter's tuxedo kitty named Gypsy. Seems she and their second dog just can't get along, so she came to live with us.

We'd just lost our tortie tabby and thought we might lose our Manx who was grieving, so we went to the Humane Society to find a brother and sister pair. We opened all the cages in the kitty room and one set ran out to run and play on the cat trees. We went to sit across the room and after about ten minutes of thinking about our late cat Lucy, the brown and gray tabby brother and sister came over to stand in front of us. They said, "The audition is over. Take us home." We did and fourteen years ago Halloween, Boris and Natasha came to live at our house. I later found out St. Lucy was the patron saint of cats and vision. I like to think she brought them to us.
Best of luck on your new book!

When my black cat Sammy died, we went to the adoption fair at Petco. There was a totally black kitten curled up with a Russian Blue, his brother. When I told the lady that I wouldn't adopt the black one because it would split them up, she waived the adoption fee for my grey boy. Now I have two boisterous guys, Beau and Jack. They race through the house and play and sometimes fight. I love them! (plus my other two rescues: KJ (saved from Hurricane Katrina) and Grace (Sammy's sister).

My comment disappeared while I was posting it. Sorry. to repeat, when my black cat Sammy died, we went to Petco adoption fair (Southside SPCA). There were two kittens curled up together sleeping. One solid black and the other Russian Blue (brothers). When I told the lady I wouldn't separate the black one from his brother, she waived the fee for my grey boy. They romp together all day and I just love them plus my two other rescues: KJ (from NOLA after Katrina) and Grace.

We chose our dog, Bailey, but our cat chose us...he appeared in our dog house as a young kitten a cold winter night. "Oscar" stays outside, but has a warm shelter and often our dog will cuddle up with Oscar. They are best pals, The Dog even lets the cat eat her food while she is eating!

We chose Lucky. Someone left him off in a coworker's neighborhood and he was looking for a home for him. We were shown his picture and immediately fell in love! The vet said he was about three months old then. We have had him for seven years!
