#Cats This Week--#Feline #Halloween Trick or Treat by Karen Rose Smith

The Smith felines have their door open for trick or treating this weekend.  Although our furry crew already get treats daily (actually several times a day!!!), they wanted to join in the fun.  Who do you think put on their best Halloween mask?

SUNNYBUD's "Don't Cross ME" Mask

Zoie Joy's "Hear Me Roar" Mask

Miss Paddington's "I Could Give A Good Lick!" Mask

London's "Growling Yawn" Mask

Halo's "Evil Eye" Mask
Word travels fast!  A new stray stopped by, hoping to share the "treats"!

Have a safe and "spooktacular" Halloween.  And give your furry babies an extra Halloween hug!

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 87th novel will be released in 2015.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens. And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

Karen looks forward to interacting with readers.  They can find her at the links below.

Book 8 in Karen Rose Smith's SEARCH FOR LOVE series is coming in 2016!

I love indie publishing for lots of reasons.  I can write the length I'd like, let the book proceed on its own without guidelines.  One of the most important motivating factors in writing indie books is crossing genres.  I can combine mystery, romance and suspense in any way I'd like.

My Search For Love Series began with two revised backlist titles that had been published by Harlequin.  But then I wrote four original novels with the SEARCH FOR LOVE theme.  My heroine in the first SEARCH book, NATHAN's VOW, visits each book for an important purpose--to find a missing person.  She has a "gift" for it.  Only HEARTFIRE, another backlist title, is a straight romance.

I'm working on Book 8.  I'm keeping the title a secret for now.  I'm about half way and need to fit it in between with my contracted titles, both mystery and romance.  Book 8 takes a character from book 7, Beth from HER SISTER, and goes into detail about her story and background while also leading her to her own happily-ever-after.

The SEARCH FOR LOVE novels are available in e-book, print and audiobook formats. From romance to mystery to women's fiction, the SEARCH FOR LOVE series can suit any reader's need for an emotional and moving novel. Here's a bit more about each.

NATHAN'S VOW, Book 1. Contemporary Paranormal Romance

When Nathan Bradley's ex-wife disappears with his daughters, he does everything in his power to find them. His private investigator hits a wall and suggests Nathan convince psychic Gilliam Moore to help him. At first, Gillian is reluctant. She'd come to L.A. from Indiana to get lost in the crowd...to escape her gift that sometimes seemed more like a burden. As a manicurist, she is learning to relax again and enjoy life. But when Nathan makes his plea and shows her a picture of his girls, she knows she must help him. However, the spark and sizzle between them becomes a fascinating impediment to her progress. Gillian, who was once burnt by a divorced dad, tries to keep her perspective. But Nathan is a force to be reckoned with. Will her gift lead her to love or heartache once again?

JAKE'S BRIDE, Book 2. Contemporary marriage of convenience

Could Jake ever trust Sara again? Sara Standish knew private investigator Jake Donovan didn't want children. He'd lost his wife and child and his anguish was obvious. With their wedding only days away, she discovered she was pregnant. Should she marry Jake and trap him with a child he might not want? She loved him too much to do that so she called off their wedding and left Los Angeles without telling him about her pregnancy. Now four years later, a letter from her mother helps her realize she made a terrible mistake. Jake deserves to know he has a son. When Sara tells Jake the truth, she sees the sense of betrayal in his eyes. He will never be able to trust her again. But when he asks her to marry him for the sake of their son, she hopes her love can heal them both.

Although Jake has hardened his heart against Sara's beauty and gentle nature, he knows he wants to be a father to his son. The only way to do that? Marriage. But he doesn't expect to be caught in the web of loving Sara again. With Christmas near, can they really become a family? Only if he can leave the past behind. Can the traditions of Christmas make Jake whole? No, but maybe love can.

ALWAYS DEVOTED, Book 3. Contemporary romance/mystery

Single mom, Emma Henderson's worry about her missing sister threatens to overshadow her life. Media mogul Linc Granger offers Emma help, first by airing a nation-wide interview and then... By suggesting Emma consult with his friend Gillian Bradley who has a "gift" for finding missing persons.
As Emma and Linc walk the beach and she considers his unorthodox suggestion, Emma realizes she feels a sizzle of attraction to this man that she never felt with another--not even her late husband. Linc Granger is out of her league in so many ways. Yet her four-year-old daughter Becky believes he's her new best friend!

Emma and Linc's chemistry is impossible to deny as they consult with Gillian and follow leads to find Paige. What happens when their attraction explodes and they do find answers? Will Emma be able to leave the past behind to find a future with Linc?

ALWAYS HER COWBOY, Book 4.

A sweetly sexy contemporary ranch romance by Karen Rose Smith with an old-fashioned flavor but a modern twist.

Once a doctor, Zack leaves tragedy behind and heads for a life that once brought him peace. He finds a temporary job on the Rising Star Ranch in Wyoming. Lucy McIntyre, adopted into a large family who loves her, does her father a favor by checking the man's references as well as doing a face to face interview. Lucy never expects the sizzling magnetic pull toward Zackary Burke. Almost immediately she realizes he's a complicated man. But she has her own secret. And in the middle of Zack's interview she receives an unusual call from the family lawyer that could lead her on a search for a lost sibling.

Family and romance clash. But Lucy thaws Zack's heart until he wants to remain ALWAYS HER COWBOY.

HEARTFIRE, Book 5. Contemporary, reunion romance with family themes.

Tessa Kahill, renowned journalist who traveled the world, is falling in love with her best friend's husband all over again! Tessa and Max Winthrop dated before he met Leslie. But then Tessa left with secrets and dreams to follow her career, and Max married Leslie. With a child and what he considered a "perfect" marriage, Max was devastated when he lost his wife, his son's mother, and Tessa's best friend. A rocky road, a man and woman who are searching for love and a little boy who holds his own secret. They could be a real family if they could all become vulnerable and honest with each other. A heartfire has been burning for years. Will it lead to everlasting love?

Previously published as HEARTFIRE, HOMEFIRE with Silhouette Books under the pseudonym Kari Sutherland.

CASSIDY'S COWBOY, Book 6.

Cassidy Sullivan never knew who her dad was and she'd lost her mom. Her twin sister Lucy had found her with the help of a woman with an intuitive gift--Gillian Bradley. Should they try to find their father? What might happen if they do? But Cassie doesn't count on her foreman's nephew stealing her heart or his daughter confiding in her as if she were a mom in the midst of her search!

The search for a father and true love is a lot to handle at the same time. But Cassidy Sullivan isn't your ordinary cowgirl, and Ben O'Donnell could possibly become CASSIDY'S COWBOY.

HER SISTER, Book 7 in Karen Rose Smith's SEARCH FOR LOVE series.

Contemporary women's fiction with romance and mystery

Clare's little sister, Lynnie, was abducted twenty-seven years ago.  Now the retired detective who has never been able to let go of the cold case has a lead.  Lynnie could be alive!

Clare's neighbor, Joe, an occasional friend until now, gives her support and...wants more than friendship.

Clare's mom, Amanda, thrown together again with her ex-husband into a crisis discovers forgotten love beneath the regrets.

Clare's sixteen year old daughter, Shara, decides to run from her problems instead of facing them.

A devoted sister, a turmoiled mom and a rebellious daughter find their way back to each other in this contemporary ebook about three generations who discover love can knit their family back together again.

#Cats This Week--#Sisters by Karen Rose Smith

I was an only child and always longed to have a sister. Now as I watch the sisterly dynamics of my feline family, I realize even more what life could have been like if I had had a sibling.

Halo has the best of both worlds. Since she joined our family as a pregnant stray and gave birth to her litter, she is both a mother to her fur baby Miss Paddington and a sister her adopted housemates, Zoie Joy and London. She seems much more accepting of her motherly role because it came so naturally to her. She is a wonderful mother and still comforts Paddy on a daily basis. She has been more hesitant in her sisterly role but is slowly becoming "closer" to Zoie, even napping on the bed with her. She sometimes gives Zoie a "sisterly" swat if they pass each too closely, but neither shows malice towards the other.

Zoie and Paddy developed an instant bond. Despite their size differences, Zoie looked to Paddy for companionship and was patient with her kitty antics. Now as they are closer in size, they still romp through the house and Zoie anxiously awaits at the door to open each morning to be reunited with her sisters (Paddy and Halo sleep in my office as they have since Halo gave birth.).

When they're not napping, Paddy and Zoie keep an eye out for each other. Paddy loves to hide behind doors or in the wastebasket and jump out when Zoie comes by. Zoie also watches for her sister, sometimes observing her playing with her catnip turtle or pushing an escaped ice cube across the floor. Other times, they chase the same ladybug around the house until hubby comes to the rescue and removes the unwanted intruder.

London was used to a quiet house with just her half sister . Her world was turned topsy-turvy, first with the arrival of Zoie three years ago and then with the arrival of Halo and her litter in the summer of 2014. Ebbie's passing that September left London in the sole role of older sister and, at times, she's not sure she likes that designation. She prefers the quiet of an upstairs bedroom and often gets annoyed when Paddy or Halo bother her.

Zoie seems to be the constant in the family...she gets along with all of her "sisters." Her gentle but vocal personality seems to calm whomever she is around.

Each of our "girls" has a unique personality and we are so proud to call them family. With our son half way across the country, our "sister" felines give us daily laughter when we are down and comfort when we are hurting. They are the sisters I always wished I had!

#Cats This Week--#Relatives in the #Kitty Kingdom by Karen Rose Smith

In human families their are many interesting dynamics happening at the same time--parent child, brother sister, sister sister--all of which give each family its own unique mark. Feline "families" are no different.  Each member of our furry family has developed his or her individual personality and blended them into our unique, special and irreplaceable family.

Halo and Paddy have their own mother/daughter bond that is truly a joy to observe. Human mothers can only hope to have that bond with their daughters--sharing and caring each other, having fun romps together, comforting each other, yet giving each other space to themselves.
Zoie and Paddy have definitely developed a sisterly bond, perhaps because Paddy immediately recognized Zoie's gentle nature. They enjoy tackling each other, racing through the house, teasing each other, but then go their separate ways. Paddy is slowly learning to respect Zoie's space as well as sharing it.

Just as brothers and sisters sometimes don't want to associate with their siblings yet when they are apart miss them, Zoie and Paddy often sit and look for each other in their lonely moments. Zoie seems to miss Paddy when she's not around, perhaps because of her protective nature. And Paddy...well she's just looking for someone to play with!

Even through Sunnybud's macho exterior, he shows his affectionate side...even though it only comes in short splurts.  I don't know if he sees me as a sister or mother, but I enjoy the bond that we've developed that makes him feel part of our family...even if he's not fully aware of his status as he leaves each morning for his outside adventures.

Sunny likes his independence but also likes someone to hug him, someone to feed him and maybe even someone to look up to...for more than food!

As the older sister in the brood, London was already set in her ways and was not always receptive to the new paws that suddenly appeared in her domain. She prefers to spend her days napping peacefully on a bedroom chair, getting highly perturbed if a little brown split-faced feline disturbs her. She looks forward to my husband's afternoon naps when she can crawl in the bed next to him for her own special bonding time.

Our furry family has its squabbles and each feline needs our daily attention attention. We have been very fortunate that our indoor "girls" have learned to respect each other's space as well as share their spaces. They have someone to look for when they are lonely and someone to look up to when they need comfort (or food!)

And, of course, Halo takes her nap, dreaming of how lucky she is to have found her forever family.  We know we are lucky to have found her...and her brother and sisters!
