A Page from #Sleuth Caprice De Luca's Journal before Cozy #Mystery STAGED TO DEATH by Karen Rose Smith

My sleuth Caprice De Luca believes in keeping a journal as well as using affirmations to stay positive.  This would be her journal entry for the day before STAGED TO DEATH, Book 1 in my Caprice De Luca Home Staging series, opens.
I went to Secrets Of The Past this morning which is Kismet, Pennsylvania’s vintage dress and accessory shop. Maybe it’s my mom and Nana Celia’s influence, but I love retro fashion and design. My closet is full of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s styles. My younger sister Bella is appalled. But she’s very conservative, particular and usually organized. A stay-at-home mom with two kids, she never takes in stray animals like I do. In fact, she and four footed furry creatures don’t get along too well. On the other hand, my older sister Nikki is more like me. Good thing, too. Single and a caterer, Nikki and I work together on my elaborate open houses that I stage for high-end clients. We have one coming up soon for Roz Winslow, a high school friend. She and her powerful and arrogant husband—I love Roz but bristle at Ted’s know-it-all attitude—built a castle-like dream home. But now they’ve decided to sell it. It is perfect for a Camelot theme.
So this afternoon Nikki and I consulted on the food menu. Servers will be wearing buckskin and I called a musician who plays a lyre. Now if I could just influence Ted to empty his valuable and collectible-filled sword room, I’d be more certain about the security of the Winslows’ open house.
I took Dylan for a few walks today. He’s a stray dog I took in. I haven’t been able to find his owner even though I posted on my website and put flyers at Grocery Fresh. The ads in the Kismet Crier and the community ad paper didn’t produce results either. So my long-haired calico cat Sophia might have a permanent buddy. Sophia started hanging around my 50’s style Cape Cod house soon after I moved in. Her beautiful fur was matted and she was in need of a good home. Sophia and I bonded and I soon moved in a floor-to-ceiling turquoise cat tree which is one of her favorite places to perch. Nana Celia says I came from a large family so that’s why I like furry companions around me in my home as an adult. I accept advice from a Nana Celia more easily than the rest of my family. When we have tea in her little apartment attached to my childhood home, she shares stories from her past that give me direction now.
Beatles music is playing on my iPod while I type this in. I use She Loves You as the ringtone on my phone now. I’m considering which of their songs I want to use next. Although Dylan was named for Bob Dylan, the Beatles music is my favorite. Bella says my straight long hairdo with bangs is straight from that era and I should find a new style. But this is easy and I like it. After all, Bella has always had bouncy black curls that added to her beauty. My retro clothes and sense of style make me unique. I like being unique.
Except… I would like some romance in my life. I’d like to have someone special to take along to our monthly family dinners…to spend free time with. He’d have to be an animal lover, of course. And he’d have to understand that at 32, I’m an independent gal and I don’t take orders well. I want a partner. For some reason as I wrote that I thought of my brother Vince’s law partner, Grant Weatherford. But he’s definitely out of the question.
Sophia is stretched out on my desk. Dylan just woke up and is staring at Sophia like he’d like to have a chase with her. It’s time for a tablespoon of dairy cream for Sophia, treats for Dylan, and a home-made biscotti with chocolate macadamia nut decaf coffee for me.
Tomorrow… My to-do list is long already. Main errand—go to OLDER AND BETTER, Isaac Hobbs’ antique shop with Bella. Maybe we can find a birthday present for Mom while we’re there.

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 95th novel will be released in 2016.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens.  And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

#Caprice De Luca Home Staging #Mystery #Titles ON SALE by Karen Rose Smith

Dear Readers,

I have terrific news! In conjunction with the release of my fifth Caprice De Luca Home Staging Mystery--SILENCE OF THE LAMPS--on April 26, the first four books in the series will be on sale until April 30. This is a great opportunity to catch up on any titles which you have missed so you are up to date with Caprice's family, her love life and her stray animals. In SILENCE, our rescued cat Halo makes an appearance...and Caprice might have to decide about a marriage proposal!

Caprice's house staging is disrupted by Drew Pierson, her sister Nikki's business rival. The caterer opened Portable Edibles and plans to bury Nikki's Catered Capers. His successful launch deal for his blackberry barbecue sauce must have stirred up his enemies. When Nikki visits the house where Drew lives with his grandmother to resolve differences, she and Caprice find him dead--murdered with the base of a valuable Tiffany lamp. And Nikki is the police detective's #1 suspect.

Pre-order SILENCE OF THE LAMPS on Barnes and Noble

These days, home stager Caprice De Luca's calendar is a full house. Her grandmother's health is failing, her wayward uncle is stirring the pot, and she's torn between two equally eligible suitors. With so much drama in her personal life, Caprice is grateful to have Ace Richland, a former 80s rock star, ask her to stage his girlfriend's house. But Alanna Goodwin is a tough customer who balks at Caprice's ideas and all but commandeers the staging. Caprice almost isn't surprised when the snappish Southern belle is strangled to death with a tieback from her tacky velvet drapes. But just as she draws back the curtains on the truth, Caprice realizes she may be next on a murderer's set list…

Caprice De Luca's latest house staging is all about hearts, flowers, lace and chintz since Valentine's Day is around the corner.  She never expects her client to be murdered in the greenhouse the day of the open house.

With her six-month-old cocker spaniel pup Lady by her side and her own love life in disarray, Caprice ferrets out clues from the victim's best friend, Caprice's mother, the housekeeper and a special male friend who insists his relationship with the victim was platonic.  However, as Caprice digs deeper, she finds the victim's past is filled with secrets that she kept from her husband for thirty years.

The past isn't merely history.  The present isn't always what it seems.  When hearts are involved, passion and even murder aren't far behind.

Quiet Kismet, Pennsylvania, may look like any other small town, but as a home-stager, Caprice De Luca can see behind closed doors—and it seems someone has designs on murder...

Life is a full house for Caprice these days.  She's dating, she's rescuing adorable cocker spaniels, and she's decorating the roomy interiors of Kismet's most well-heeled residents with fun fantasy themes.  But when a house painter Caprice frequently employs is found dead, it's time for Caprice to stage an investigation.  She must shift her attention from finding the perfect curtains to finding the perfect culprit.

Welcome to Kismet, PA, where home stager Caprice De Luca helps her clients shine in a lackluster real estate market—and where someone may only be in the market for murder...

Caprice De Luca has successfully parlayed her skills as an interior designer into a thriving home staging business.  So when her old high school friend Roz Winslow asks her to spruce up her mess of a mansion to perk up a slow buyer's market, Caprice is more than happy to share her skills.  But when Roz's husband Ted is found skewered by one of his sword room's prized possessions, it appears the Winslows have a few skeletons in their palatial closets.  With the stage set for murder, Caprice will discover she can track down an antique tapestry and a cold-blooded killer with equal aplomb—as long as she's not the next victim.

I hope you enjoy all of Caprice's adventures and feel as if you're part of the De Luca family. I love to chat with my readers and I do much of that on Facebook on my KarenRoseSmithBooks page. I will be having a launch party there for SILENCE OF THE LAMPS on April 26, 2016 which is release day. There will be prizes every 15 minutes from 7-10 p.m. EDT as well as conversation and fun. You're welcome to join in.

Meet Colleen Collins--Author of MISTLETOE AND MURDER IN LAS VEGAS, a #Christmas #Romantic-#Mystery

Hello everyone,

I'm delighted to be a guest on Karen Rose Smith's blog. Like Karen, I'm a big cat lover (two are sleeping next to me as I write this) and I enjoy writing romantic mysteries with strong family themes. All of which describe my new book, "Mistletoe and Murder in Las Vegas," a story about a down-on-her-luck lawyer, a special agent visited by the past, and an arson dog named Maggie who join forces to rescue the holiday spirit. Because it is, after all, the most wonderful time of the year.

To celebrate the release, I'm giving away a $50 Amazon gift card via Tasty Tours (Visit TastyBookTours.com). The book will also be on sale for 99 cents through December 18 on Amazon.

Wishing you all the joys and happiness of the holiday season.

Colleen

Meet Heather Heyford--Author of A TASTE OF SAKE, a #Contemporary #Romance

I met Heather through our area writers group--Central Pennsylvania Romance Writers. She also writes for Kensington Books (Lyrical Press). If you like contemporary romances, you will enjoy her series, The Napa Wine Heiresses.  Here is a message from Heather:

"Love One Another" . . .  That's the theme of the season. Unconditional love is also the theme of my latest release, A TASTE OF SAKE. But it's hard to feel like you're deserving of love when your father never publicly acknowledged you and your mother kicked you to the curb. So when impoverished Sake St. Pierre finally is welcomed into the magnificent home that is her birthright, it's no wonder she has a tough time believing she's worthy of it. Only her compassionate sisters and the patience and understanding of a kind, honest man convince Sake that she can trust without reservation.

I hope this holiday season finds you happy and loved, and I'm wishing you the best new year ever. Cheers!

Heather Heyford

A TASTE OF SAKE (The Napa Wine Heiresses) by Heather Heyford:

Sake, the half-Japanese, all-wild love child of wine maker Xavier St. Pierre, is dragged against her will to meet her 3 accomplished sisters, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Merlot. Along the way, Sake loses her job, her dog, and her heart. Can the black sheep of the family ever measure up to her fancy siblings? And how will she learn to trust mild-mannered Realtor Bill Diamond, when rejection is all she’s ever known?

Meet Scarlett Dunn--Author of FINDING PROMISE, a #Historical #Inspirational #Romance

Hi, readers!  Scarlett and I both write for Kensington Books.  I thought you'd enjoy a peek into her historical, inspirational romance--FINDING PROMISE.  Here is a message from Scarlett.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to my lovely readers!

As I've had my nose stuck in a computer screen for the entire year, I've been remiss in telling all of those who have supported me how much I value you. It has been such a joy to know that I have had the opportunity to entertain some of you with my stories. I love writing inspirational stories featuring characters who face difficult circumstances and come out stronger, with the knowledge God is always by their side. We will all face difficulties in life, but I've found it helps to give thanks through those bleak times and recognize He hasn't abandoned us. He is seeing us through the darkness.

My wish for you this coming year is that you follow your dreams. God doesn't put a dream in your heart unless He also gives you the ability to see it through. It may not be easy, it most likely won't be easy, but stay the course. When you are old and look back on your life, you don't want to waste one minute on a "what if" question. Dreams come true with action. Take action by taking the first step. I am certain someone will help you along.

I wish you all a blessed Christmas and New Year.

Scarlett

His gunfighting skills and trail savvy have saved U.S. Marshal Jake McBride more times than he can count. Soon, with danger closing in, they'll have only one chance to face their doubts, their fears—and their growing love…

FINDING PROMISE was named by Booklist as one of the Top 10 Inspirational Novels of 2015!
