Cats This Week 7/31 by Karen Rose Smith

What a busy week at the Smith household! My newest mystery DRAPE EXPECTATIONS was released on Tuesday and I hosted a Facebook launch party that evening.  (Paddy spent some of the evening on my desk while I chatted.  Hubby was my virtual assistant this time around and he did a fabulous job.) Then... Miss Paddington turned one year old on Wednesday.  Click HERE to read Paddy's special birthday blog about Halo and her kittens. Needless to say, our furry family was in the midst of the goings-ons all week!

Paddy's curiosity gets the best of her
and she "escapes" with the bubble wrap!
Paddy and Halo were exhausted
at the end of the launch party!

I occasionally need to step back from the stress of my daily routine and relax. Going down to the patio to feed and pet Sunnybud gives me time away from social media and writing...time to just breathe and regroup. Recently I picked up my watercolor brushes again. What better subject to paint than Sunny snoozing in our yard!

Arthur leaves after a morning visit. He
usually just eats and leaves...no massages
for him!

And, of course, Halo sleeps through it all!
Halo had a medical event on Thursday and spent the night in the emergency hospital.  She is now at home and resting comfortably.

DRAPE EXPECTATIONS, book 4

Caprice De Luca's former client and now friend Ace Richland--an 80's rock star--asks her for a favor.  Can she quickly stage his girlfriend's house to sell?  Widow Alanna Goodwin, a transplanted Southern beauty, will be moving in with him!  Immediately Caprice realizes Alanna's southern charm can be turned on and off at will.  Caprice agrees to stage Alanna's Kismet antebellum-styled mansion for Ace's sake.  But she soon learns Alanna doesn't have a genuine love for her cat Mirabelle and also uncovers a plot her new client is hatching to sabotage Ace's comeback.  However, before she can tell Ace, Alanna is murdered and Ace is the prime suspect.

As Caprice investigates, she learns Alanna had more secrets than pie safes.  With her Cocker Spaniel Lady by her side, she tracks down clues and adopts Alanna's cat.  In the midst of some of her own family upheaval--her uncle has moved in with her parents--she finds herself with a dilemma.  Grant Weatherford, her brother's law partner, advises Ace and reveals more of his past to her.  Seth Randolph, the doctor she dates, wants her to meet his family.  She must choose between them.

Danger stalks Caprice.  Will her refresher self-defense course save her life?  Only if she keeps her wits about her and Lady by her side.

On the way to solving the murder, Caprice's large Italian family helps and hinders. She also finds romance with Dr. Seth Randolph. But does her brother's partner, attorney Grant Weatherford, care about her, too? Or is he just worried she'll get herself killed and her family will blame him?

Enjoy solving the mystery with Caprice, cook along with her, see her find homes for the stray animals she protects, be a part of the De Luca family...in STAGED TO DEATH.

DEADLY DECOR, book 2

Quiet Kismet, Pennsylvania, may look like any other small town, but as a home stager, Caprice De Luca can see behind closed doors--and it seems someone has designs on murder. . .Life is a full house for Caprice these days. She's dating, she's rescuing adorable cocker spaniels, and she's decorating the roomy interiors of Kismet's most well-heeled residents with fun fantasy themes. But she's worried about her pregnant sister. Bella's marriage is coming apart like a bad wallpaper job, and to make matters worse, she's decided to meet up with a former flame Bob Preston, a house painter Caprice frequently employs. When he's found dead in a pool of green paint swirling with blood, it's time for Caprice to stage an investigation. With all eyes trained on Bella's husband, Caprice shifts her attention from finding the perfect curtains to finding the perfect culprit. . .

GILT BY ASSOCIATION, book 3

Caprice De Luca's latest house staging is all about hearts, flowers, lace and chintz since Valentine's Day is around the corner.  She never expects her client to be murdered in the greenhouse the day of the open house.

With her six-month-old pup Lady by her side and her own love life in disarray, Caprice ferrets out clues from the victim's best friend, Caprice's mother, the housekeeper and a special male friend who insists his relationship with the victim was platonic.  However, as Caprice digs deeper, she finds the victim's past is filled with secrets that she kept from her husband for thirty years.

The past isn't merely history.  The present isn't always what it seems.  When hearts are involved, passion and even murder aren't far behind.

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 87th novel will be released in 2015.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens. And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

Karen looks forward to interacting with readers. They can find her at the links below.

A #Tip About #Facebook LIKES, Friends...and Author Pages

Hi, readers.  Many of you follow my profile page as well as my KarenRoseSmithBooks page on Facebook.  I have both for a bunch of reasons.  On my personal page, I post more personal photos about everyday life.  And you must be a "friend" on my profile page in order to be included in my Street Team Group or my Readers Group.  However, it's my KarenRoseSmithBooks page where I post everyday writing news, releases and important for my readers--GIVEAWAYS.

I feel that we're a small community on my KarenRoseSmithBooks page.  Over 1100 readers have LIKED the page.  However, only about 50 of you see regularly what is on that page.  This is what you have to do to learn about giveaways, news and chat there.  HOVER YOUR CURSOR over the LIKED icon.  Make sure the "SHOW IN NEWS FEED" and "ADD TO INTEREST GROUP" choices are checked.  Let's see if I can actually reach you with giveaways, news and chats.

Click here to visit KarenRoseSmithBooks Facebook page.

Only six more weeks until spring.  But that can be a looong six weeks.  So watch my KarenRoseSmithBooks Facebook page for some fun to make winter seem a little shorter.

Best,
Karen Rose Smith

Why I Maintain Two #Facebook Pages by Karen Rose Smith

I began with a profile page on Facebook years ago.  I always intended it to be a place where readers could find me.  Even now, I don't concern myself with privacy settings on the page because I talk about my interests--cats, gardening, cooking and comments about trending subjects.  This is where readers can see a personal side of my life.  I've developed an interest in photography and on this page I share my photos of my cats, gardens, foods and scenes I find captivating.  (Including the buffet of foods at friends on Thanksgiving Day!)

Karen's FACEBOOK Profile Page

Not long after I developed the personal page, other writers advised me to set up an "author" page because it was the thing to do.  This is the page readers must "like" before they can post on my wall.  On this page, I post mostly professional news about books, how my writing is developing, what I'm working on and what's coming up next.  Now and then I also post cat and garden photos and recipes that have something to do with my books.  I also do giveaways here.  The problem with this page is Facebook's algorithms and amount of readers I reach.  I have over 1000 likes.  However, if I post something and don't "boost" it, it might only reach 50 - 100 readers.  I often ask myself if that's worth my time because I won't pay to boost each post.  Not only that, but I can't even post some ads my cover designer developed for me because they have "too much text."

Karen's FACEBOOK Author Page

Is it worth keeping this page?  I'm still deciding.  I held a launch party for STAGED TO DEATH there in September and that was successful.  So it is a useful landing spot.

I've formed a Street Team group on Facebook where I interact often with readers who help spread the word about my books.  I've also formed a Readers Group where I do giveaways and talk about books.  I hope to have a discussion and question and answer session there in the new year about my Caprice De Luca mystery series. (One note about forming groups. You have to be friends with the person you want to add to the group before you can add them!  A "Like" from your author page doesn't do it.)

Facebook does take a lot of my time.  In the coming year, I'll be part of two new author groups--SUNFLOWER AUTHORS and RMS WRITERS--who are developing group pages.  I have more interaction with readers on Facebook than anywhere else.  After twenty-two years in the publishing business and over 80 published novels, I still believe I reach my audience one reader at a time.  Facebook has been a help in reaching them and getting to know them.,  I feel it's been time well invested.

Six Reasons I Give Away #Books!

Why do I give away books?

I give away books for several reasons.  I like to make readers happy.  What better way than to give them a signed copy of a book they'd like to read and maybe even keep.

I give away books to promote my next title.  If you read my book and you like it, I'm hoping you'll want to read more of my novels.

I give away books to be able to interact with my readers.  Maybe a reader will email me and let me know if they enjoyed the book.  We can start a dialogue that helps me know my readers better and helps them know me.

I give away books hoping a reader will write a review.  In the world of rate and review, I hope a reader will care enough to leave an honest review.  Supposedly the more reviews, the better a book sells.  I have as yet to see that, but I can hope!

I give away books at various venues to provide readers with multiple opportunities to win.  I blog on different websites.  I giveaway books on Goodreads.  I give away books at my newsletter IN TOUCH (don't forget to sign up here: IN TOUCH with KAREN ROSE SMITH newsletter  ) and from my blog and Facebook, too.  If you check my Facebook Karen Rose Smith Author page: KRS Facebook Page, I do giveaways there often.  My Caprice De Luca mystery series street team has contests as well as book giveaways.

I think the best reason I give away books is to thank my readers for supporting me in the many phases of my career.  Now, as I add mysteries to my romance repertoire, I hope you will follow me into that genre, too.

I'm giving away 2 autographed print copies of ALWAYS DEVOTED at Goodreads:  Goodreads Giveaway

I'm giving away a copy of MARRYING DR. MAVERICK at HarlequinJunkies.  Harlequin Junkies Giveaway

If you leave a comment on this blog, your name will go into a drawing for an ebook copy of HER SISTER.

Good luck!!!
