USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. This award-winning and bestselling author will have her 100th novel released in 2018.  At present she is working on two mystery series for Kensington Books--Caprice De Luca Home Staging cozies and Daisy's Tea Garden mysteries. From time to time, she also writes romance for Harlequin Special Edition.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks and does watercolor paintings rather than gardens.  And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

The Dad Who Saved Christmas by Karen Rose Smith

Christmas is about children most of all--the sparkle in their eyes, the belief in the impossible, their faith the world is a good place. THE DAD WHO SAVED CHRISTMAS is about a couple Nick and Faith falling in love but more importantly about their willingness and determination to protect a child. A mother will do anything for her child. A dad will give up the world for his. Faith and Nick find that in saving Christmas for Jakie, they find love, trust and happily-ever-after for themselves.
I wish all my readers the blessings of the holidays and the joy that knowing you are loved brings.

The best of the season to all--

Karen Rose Smith

A preview...

Contemporary romance/marriage of convenience/Christmas

Five-year-old Jakie is hanging mid air on a harness, practicing for the Christmas pageant and Faith Hewitt, his foster mom, can't reach him. Seconds later Nick Clark appears as if he was sent by the angel Jakie is trying to be. Nick lowers Jakie to safety and Faith is hit by her attraction to Nick that she thought evaporated years ago.

Faith had a crush on Nick in high school. But they ran in different crowds and he married a beautiful cheer leader and prom queen. But the gossip mill in Winding Creek worked well and Faith heard that marriage didn't last long before they both left town.

Now Nick was back at least overnight and stranded by a snow storm. He owns a toy store now but isn't in tune with the joy of the Christmas season. She offers her spare room and he accepts. When Nick learns Faith wants to adopt Jakie but that adoption is threatened, he steps up and offers a marriage of convenience.

But is it convenient? Or does the past interfere too much?

Christmas is a time of love and forgiveness. Maybe Faith and Nick can find the spirit of Christmas together.

Coping With Missing Loved Ones During The #Holidays by Karen Rose Smith

Holidays bring up tons of emotions. With childhood memories come mental pictures of those we've lost.  Holidays with them are emblazoned on our hearts and seem to flash brighter this time of year. Missing means loving.  Missing means having been loved.

But there is the present which is an opportunity to make new memories instead of only looking back to the past.  My husband and I thought we'd be alone for Thanksgiving this year.  We even considered going to a casino for a while since it would be a nice drive about an hour away and a bit of fun.  Movie theaters were another option but they are usually crowded on the holiday.  Considering friends I knew who didn't have families in the area,  I reached out to another couple and discovered they were just going out for dinner because their family was across the country.   I invited them for dinner on Thanksgiving day.  I'm looking forward to it.

I've found the best way to handle missing is to give to someone who needs kindness.  It can be as simple as a phone conversation or a card in the mail. It can be an invitation to dinner or sending a meal to an elderly neighbor.

The holidays can still be sweet if we realize life changes every day.  We can't stop it. But we can appreciate each person in our life right now.

#Cats This Week--#Feline Holiday Spirit by Karen Rose Smith

While the holidays are happy times for sharing with family and friends, they can also be a time of stress and anxiety with everyone rushing to complete their preparations. I thought it would be fun to take a look at the Smith felines as they begin their holiday gift buying, wrapping and decorating.

Paddy uses a piece of ribbon to begin
decorating the feline scratching house.

Zoie checks the bathroom closet
for decorations to assist Paddy.
We decided to use an animal print decorating
theme this year and Zoie picks the throw
she would prefer on "her" bed.

Paddy checks the box to make sure nothing was missed
when unpacking a gift.
Paddy "helps" to box the gift and stays
close to "assist" in the wrapping.

Halo watches closely to assure that
everything is being done to her satisfaction.
As you prepare for the holidays, take time to breathe, relax and enjoy the beauty of the season. From my furry family to yours...Happy Holidays!

A #Holiday Gift from Karen Rose Smith--Toys And Baby Wishes #99cents

This time of year thoughts turn to gift giving. I like to give my readers a bargain for the season. This year I'm running a sale for the ebook format of my romantic comedy, TOYS AND BABY WISHES, for 99 cents. My hero, Josh Flannigan, owns a toy store and is young at heart.  My heroine, Lexa Kittredge, is a job counselor who is helping Josh's aunt find a new lease on life. They clash at the beginning but soon find their attraction trumps all.  Christmas plays an important role in the finale.

I hope TOYS AND BABY WISHES brings you joy in the season and warm, fuzzy feelings that can last all year.

Excerpt from TOYS AND BABY WISHES...
Available audiobook format too!

Josh stood and went behind his desk.  "I apologize for my attitude yesterday.  I'd driven all day and was looking forward to taking Clare to dinner.  When I found chaos instead..."  He shrugged and smiled.

It was a disarming smile.  She'd known many men who didn't know how to apologize.  She relaxed and smiled back.  "I'm afraid I didn't help much.  I'm sorry I...blew up."

"Maybe I needed to hear what you had to say.  I really do have Clare's best interests at heart."

Lexa sat forward, feeling she was making progress.  "I know.  She's told me you're more of a son than a nephew."

He pulled out the swivel chair and sat behind his desk.  "And what else did she tell you?"

An imp made Lexa say, "Something about catching you skinny dipping with your girlfriend after your high school graduation party.  How difficult it was to teach you how to drive under the speed limit.  How you traded two of her oldest silver dollars for a frog..."

"Stop.  Stop!" he pleaded.  "Or you'll have me blushing before your eyes."

"As if anything could make you blush."

"I could think of a few things," he teased.

That winsome smile of his could melt Antarctica.
