#Feline Duos and #Companions--#Cats This Week by Karen Rose Smith

Companionship is an important part of our human nature. We seek companions for support, for comfort, for love, and even for infamous reasons.  Famous duos from the past have become household terms--Samson and Delilah, Bonnie and Clyde, Ricky and Lucy, Lancelot and Guinevere. We also seek companionship in our furry friends. I happen to believe that cats, as well as dogs, are man's and woman's best friend. Our pets are always there for us and show their love and dedication in their own special ways. Zoie Joy will settle on the bed next to my pillow when I take a nap and simply reach out a paw to make contact and tell me that she is there. Halo senses when I don't fell well and snuggles in my arms to offer comfort. Paddington loves to sit nearby when I'm preparing breakfast just to "be" with me. Even London, set in her ways, waits each afternoon for my hubby to take his nap so she can snuggle next to him.

As I was gathering snapshots for this week's blog, I noticed a lot of the photos captured our cats together--whether they were napping, playing or getting into trouble. They enjoy each other's company and seek togetherness with each other as much as with us. If we leave for an appointment, to go shopping or visit friends, when we return home they are always in near proximity to each other, often sleeping on the bed together. They find comfort and safety in their companionship.

Bonnie and Clyde on the patio.
Our new outside duo who have been visiting our patio feeding stations regularly are extremely close to each other. They travel together, eat together and frolic on the hillside next to our house together, much as human siblings would do. Their camaraderie is striking to watch. We have named them Bonnie and Clyde because they are on the run but still have an amazing relationship.

Zoie Joy and Paddington share the bed.

Paddy and Zoie devise plans
to rummage through the bathroom
linen closet.

Halo and Zoie nap together
on the recliner.

In a photo from my archived files, I found
a photo of Halo before she came inside and
a protective Sunnybud. While Sunny was not
ready to become domesticated, he knew that
Halo needed our care and he watched over her
until she made the transition from outside to
inside cat.

I hope you enjoy this week's photos of our furry duos. Once again our feline friends can teach us a valuable lesson--appreciate those around you, seek comfort from them when you are down and cherish those special moments when they make you smile or simply want to be close to you...because they love you.

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 95th novel will be released in 2016.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens.  And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

Karen looks forward to interacting with readers. They can find her at the links below.

What beautiful picture. Snowflake was our only cat for 5 years she was so not happy when we got Crystal. Crissy just wanted to be friends when we moved from Pa to Upstate New York they got along much better then we added Starre after she , her sisters and mom were dumped between our farm and our neighbors. Starre glued them together. Now we have added the boys Simba and Pumba and it's funny to watch Snowey & Crissy letting them know who is boss. Boy do I love all 5 of my furbabies.

It's not easy to keep a cat family content. But we do our best!
