Cats This Week 8/7--#Feline Friday by Karen Rose Smith

Halo had a medical scare this week. The veterinarian considered it either a "neuro" (possibly from past trauma) or a "cardiac" event.  Halo stayed overnight in the veterinary emergency hospital, followed by a visit to our regular vet the day after she came home. The emergency hospital is a fifty-minute drive and Halo gets car sick, so the trip itself was hard on her. Our vet helped us formulate a plan to give us peace of mind that she can handle the spaying procedure and much needed dental work. So on Monday she will be returning to the emergency hospital for an echocardiogram. Then if everything looks good, we'll wait a month or so to schedule her procedures. Paddy missed her mom while she was gone and both Zoie and Paddy were very concerned and protective when she returned. Even London came to visit from upstairs. Halo seems to have recovered to her old self but certainly did love the extra attention.

Halo rests in the kitchen after her
return home from the emergency hospital.
Of, course, prior to and after all of Halo's medical issues, Paddy was her usual mischievous self. She has no rest until uninvited winged insects are properly disposed of. She is always on hand as the mail is opened and ready to "claim" new household items as her own. Sometimes she's agreeable to sharing with Halo or London. Just when we think she has explored every nook and crevice in the house, she finds another. This week we found her sitting on top of the bathroom medicine cabinet, tucked in under the light fixture. Hubby was called to the rescue on this one!

Paddy explores a new
rug that looks just like
Sunnybud!
Zoie Joy claims her part of the new rug.

Paddy on insect alert!
Paddy is wedged between the top of the
medicine cabinet and the light fixture!

London makes a rare appearance
in the bedroom and settles on the back
of the recliner while the other felines nap on the bed.

Sunnybud gets his morning massage.
Sunny rests in the garden before
heading off for the night.
Halo finds a sunny spot for her afternoon nap.

GILT BY ASSOCIATION, book 3

Caprice De Luca's latest house staging is all about hearts, flowers, lace and chintz since Valentine's Day is around the corner.  She never expects her client to be murdered in the greenhouse the day of the open house.

With her six-month-old pup Lady by her side and her own love life in disarray, Caprice ferrets out clues from the victim's best friend, Caprice's mother, the housekeeper and a special male friend who insists his relationship with the victim was platonic.  However, as Caprice digs deeper, she finds the victim's past is filled with secrets that she kept from her husband for thirty years.

The past isn't merely history.  The present isn't always what it seems.  When hearts are involved, passion and even murder aren't far behind.

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 87th novel will be released in 2015.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens. And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

Karen looks forward to interacting with readers. They can find her at the links below.
