Some days we are in the mood to be social, chat with friends and share our good mood with those around us. Other days, we just want to hide in the crowd, stay to ourselves and camouflage our mood. As I pulled out the blankets and throws to snuggle in during the dark and dreary days of winter, the cats seemed to appreciate their warmth...or perhaps felt like blending into their surroundings so no one would disturb their naps. Regardless, the animal prints made beautiful backdrops for sleepy feline photos.
Outside, we have tried to camouflage the shelters for our daily visitors so they feel safe and enjoy the warmth the hay bales and ornamental grasses provide. Here, Sunnybud examines the setup. Hopefully he is sizing up all the sheltered spots we have provided to keep him and his stray friends warm and dry over the winter months. Our newest "visitor" (as of yet unnamed) is a tortie with striking green eyes. She seeks the shelter of our shrubbery and waits for us to go inside before she visits the feeders. She has been less hesitant to run when we approach her and hopefully she will avail herself of our shelters if she needs them over the next few months.
And of course, Halo looks beautiful sleeping, regardless of the backdrop!

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 91st novel will be released in 2016.
Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens. And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.
Karen looks forward to interacting with readers. They can find her at the links below.
