Snickerdoodle #Cookie #Recipe via Karen Rose Smith

Every holiday season, I think about what cookie recipes I want to bake first just in case I don't have the time to bake all on my list.  SNICKERDOODLES are a family favorite that I rate high on my to-do list. They're easy and oh, so good. The secret to great Snickerdoodles is to bake them until they are golden brown and then remove them from the cookie sheet immediately.  Otherwise they will stick! These are a melt-in-your-mouth cookie I'm sure family and friends will enjoy.

SNICKERDOODLES

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup Crisco
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon (or more)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cream butter, shortening, and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Mix in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Form cookie dough into one inch balls.

Mix 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon. Roll dough balls in the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Place balls about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake for 8-10 minutes or until set.  After taking them from oven, remove from baking sheet immediately.

Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 91st novel will be released in 2016.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens.  And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

Karen looks forward to interacting with readers. They can find her at the links below.
