#Cats This Week--Helping Out Or Sacking Out by Karen Rose Smith

If the Smith family felines weren't sacking out this week, they were "helping" out as only a resident feline can do. Paddington was on full alert as the bed sheets were changed, promptly "dusting" the clean linens with cat hair. She then surveyed under the bed to announce that a good sweeping was in order. She has also assumed "counter duty" spending countless minutes guarding the fruit basket to ward off unwanted fruit flies and keep us posted on crumbs left behind.

London assisted in folding laundry. She proclaimed that the towels had been fluffed to her approval and insisted on remaining for her afternoon nap.

Zoie and Sunnybud didn't seem to be concerned that there were household chores to do. They both chose to sack out and get some much needed rest.

Unfortunately, Halo had another "dizzy" episode this week and spend several hours at the emergency veterinary facility and also had a follow-up appointment at our vet. She is scheduled to be spayed and have dental work done on Monday and the vet is hopeful that curving the hormone "heat" rush every other week will help alleviate some of her health issues. We can only hope that she is correct.

There were some usual playful moments as well. Zoie and Paddy enjoy the scratching pad house. Zoie mostly seeks the shelter it provides while Paddy tries to figure out how to irritate her solitude.

I received a surprise package in the mail this week. A friend and fellow cat lover saw this garden solar light and immediately thought of me. It now prettily adorns one of our patio pots and peacefully welcomes our night visitors.

And despite her health scare, Halo found a few quiet moments to nap!

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 87th novel will be released in 2015.

Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens. And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.

Karen looks forward to interacting with readers. They can find her at the links below.
