This was a quiet week in the Smith feline community. Halo continued to recover from her spaying and dental surgery. She tolerated the antibiotic surprisingly well and is slowly resuming her normal activities--eating, sleeping and an occasional romp through the house with Paddy. Speaking of "normal"...Paddy was her "normal" self as she escaped with plastic bags from the kitchen counter, "helped" clean the kitchen floor and assumed guard duty on the kitchen counter. As usual, Zoie and London watched the activities, resigning themselves to the fact that life as they knew it will never be the same with their new little sister constantly disrupting their quiet household.
Halo in a rare awake moment ponders whose arms she wants to snuggle in for her evening nap. |
Zoie reflects on what life would have been like if we had not rescued her when she was 8 weeks old and weighed only 1.5 pounds. |
London ponders if she is safe from Paddy's antics in the safety of a kitchen chair. |
Sunnybud ponders where he is heading off to after his morning feeding and massage. |
There was a lot of new activity outside as the neighborhood felines prepare for the change of seasons. Sunnybud started changing his arrival times, keeping us guessing as to what his fall and winter schedules will be. New strays are visiting the feeders at dusk but are of the "eat and run" variety. Sunny is our one constant. Hopefully he will appreciate our accommodations to keep him warm through the winter.
A stray visitor sits in the field pondering his next move...or is he waiting for us to go inside so he can visit the feeding station? |
A friend saw this lovely embroidered handkerchief and thought of me! |
And, of course, Halo continued her recovery with extra long naps! |

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Karen Rose Smith is an only child who delved into books at an early age. She learned about kindred spirits from Anne of Green Gables, solved mysteries with Nancy Drew and wished she could have been the rider on The Black Stallion. Yet even though she escaped often into story worlds, she had many aunts, uncles and cousins around her on weekends. Her sense of family and relationships began there. Maybe that's why families are a strong theme in her novels, whether mysteries or romances. Her 87th novel will be released in 2015.
Readers often ask her about her pastimes. She has herb, flowers and vegetable gardens that help her relax. In the winter, she cooks rather than gardens. And year round she spends most of her time with her husband, as well as her four rescued cats who are her constant companions. They chase rainbows from sun catchers, reminding her life isn't all about work, awards and bestseller lists. Everyone needs that rainbow to chase.
Karen looks forward to interacting with readers. They can find her at the links below.

ReplyDeleteQuiet is good after all the excitement you've had lately!
ReplyDeleteQuiet moments are cherished when you have had a little to much excitement. They are all beautiful. My cat was about 8 weeks old and fit in my son's hand when my 1 year old cat Baby brought him home one night. Now he is 14 and weighs about 12 pounds and rules the house and the dogs.
ReplyDeleteCalm and uneventful is nice, especially after busy and stressful.
